"Drawing, printmaking and papermaking are often combined in my work. Many of my drawings and prints began in the papermaking process where I incorporate areas of colored pulp imagery into the paper. Thematically, my art is the out growth of my life long interest in mythical ideas of creation and the human relationship to nature. I moved to the Northwest in 1986 from the western desert and the Midwest. The forest of Oregon seemed to revive childhood memories of stories and poems from my Scottish-Irish heritage having to do with nature spirits and the magic of creation. The primal images and archetypal symbols found in my work draw on these sources to convey the timeless universality of the need to understand our origins and purpose. I often think we look back into the dust of our tracks and wonder how we arrived exactly where we are. Was it all there, hidden in the beginning of our first point of view? I sometimes juxtapose two, even three panels in order to extend the association with story telling. The pictographic images have meanings and imply stories, but their meanings are fluid and subject to imaginative interpretations."
