Hayden Bush-Council PresidentHayden Bush

President
Agriculture Science/Masters Student in Animal Sciences

Growing up on a dairy for 22 years has taught me many things, but the most important is a love for agriculture, which is why I am here at OSU as a senior in Agricultural Sciences. My name is Hayden Bush, and to few people’s surprise, I grew up farming the land and milking some cows in the beautiful coastal town of Tillamook, OR. I was very active in 4-H and FFA as a youth, which helped to solidify my passion for lifelong learning and education. As soon as I got to OSU, I became involved immediately with clubs and organizations in the College of Agricultural Sciences. Four years has slipped by quickly, and looking back at my experiences I would not change a thing. The students I have networked and connected with through these clubs have not only proved to be valuable friends, but important assets in my professional career as well. There is one thing about CAS that you will never find in the other colleges; it’s like a big family. There is a reason we have a world-renowned agriculture program and that starts with the students. I love everything that this university and college stand for and I am so excited to have the opportunity to serve as the 2013-2014 Agricultural Executive Council President. To me, a leader is someone who stands up for what they believe in and can bring out the best in others. One must be charismatic, enthusiastic, easy to work with and effective to be a good leader. A good leader should not only be able to capitalize on his or her own strengths but also be able to read others’ strengths and help them to use those effectively. I hope to be the best leader I can be and serve the students of CAS in a way that best suits their interests. Cheers to a great year!

Growing up on a commercial cow/calf operation in eastern Oregon, I have always had a strong passion and involvement in agriculture, more specifically Agricultural Education. With Oregon State offering one of the best Agricultural Education programs in the nation, as well as extensive hands on industry opportunities via clubs & teams, I knew it was a perfect fit. Dustin Welters-Director of Public RelationsDustin Welters

Director of Public Relations
Crop & Soil Science

Originally hailing from the small town of Stevensville, Montana, I moved to Sherwood, Oregon when I was ten years old. Once my family had moved to Sherwood I lost most of my connection to agriculture; however, that changed quickly my freshman year when I joined the National FFA Organization. Through competing in Career Development Events, starting my Supervised Agricultural Experience of raising swine, and holding various officer positions, I was able to take my small seed of Ag knowledge and grow it into a great passion for the agriculture industry. This passion led me here to Oregon State University. I am currently a freshman majoring in Crop & Soil Science. I am mainly involved with the Dairy Club, but I am always looking for opportunities to join other clubs! Beyond college I plan to work somewhere in the industry and continue my passion. I am excited to take on the position of Director of Public Relations and look forward to many new experiences and new people! See you around!

 Agriculture Business Management

I grew up on a twenty acre farm outside of Canby, Oregon. My initial interest in agriculture started when I joined the Clackamas County 4-H Horse Program in 4th grade. While in high school I was extremely active in many clubs. I was the Chapter President in FFA, a four-year Varsity member of the equestrian team, and in the National Honors Society. Coming to Oregon State University was an easy choice for me. I knew I wanted to pursue a degree in agriculture, while staying close to family in Oregon. In fact OSU was the only college I applied to.

Currently, I am a senior majoring in Agricultural Business Management with a minor in Animal Science. I also will be pursuing a Master’s degree in Agricultural Education. My career aspiration is to be a high school agriculture teacher and FFA advisor. Besides being involved with the Agricultural Executive Council, I am also Secretary for the OSU Agricultural Education Club, an Ambassador for Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources, and the 2014 Sisters Rodeo Queen.

I am currently a sophomore majoring in Agricultural Sciences. I am an active member in I Love Farmers They Feed My Soul Catalyst group, and Leadership Academy. This year I am very excited to be the Director of Ag Day on the Agricultural Executive Council. Growing up on a small dairy heifer replacement operation in Scio Oregon, I have always had a huge interest and involvement in agriculture. I was very active in my high school FFA Chapter and held multiple offices on the chapter and district levels. Through FFA I have shown dairy, participated in various contests, and received my State and American FFA Degrees. I have always had an interest in a health career as well as agriculture and have found that I would like to focus on connecting the two, and the College of Agricultural Sciences seems to be the perfect fit for me. I look forward to continuing my involvement within the college, as well as OSU and look forward to a very fun and productive year.

I grew up between San Luis, Colorado and Bend, Oregon. Going back and forth between two very different towns has lead to be advantageous in myself growing as a person, and continuing to grow in college. Going from San Luis, a rural town in the southern most part of Colorado; having a primary income of alfalfa, sheep and cattle. With my family being the most predominant producer in Costilla County, I was raised around beef cattle, as well as alfalfa. Then, transferring to Bend, I was exposed to the same type of agriculture but on a smaller scale, as well as a city atmosphere. Since my family has always been spread out over Colorado, Alaska and Oregon, I have seen a lot of the western Untied States and Canada. This has helped me understand many different cultures and attributes; those different types of agriculture bring to various communities. Being from an agricultural and medical background, I initially decided to pursue a pre-med option. I knew that I wanted to go to OSU because of the strong agricultural roots, and that intrigued me. During the beginning of my freshmen year, I decided to switch my major and become an Animal Sciences major with an option in pre-vet, and beef. After I made the decision, I joined Steer-a-year, which opened me up to many options within the College of Agricultural Sciences. I am now currently in my third year here at OSU, and I am continuing my pre-vet and beef options. So far, I am still an active member in Steer-a-year and Young Cattlemen’s Association. I feel that all of these experiences have led a great deal to my personal and professional growth. I am looking forward to be serving as the Director of Finance for the Agricultural Executive Council.
