Keeping up with BRR:  you can

Students need financial support!

Scholarships and other funding make it possible for BRR students to attend OSU, participate in research, and have access to special opportunities. Examples from 2007-2008:

  • Nikki Marshall  and Tammy Winfield received Jaworski summer internship support awards in 2008, which allowed them to pursue their research projects related to plant biology in the summer, a time when many students must work to earn money to pay for their educations.
  • Oregon Seed Trade Association provided scholarship support for Jess Holcomb and Melissa McKenny.
  • Tammy Winfield was awarded a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship.
  • Four BRR students were awarded project monies from URISC (the OSU Undergraduate Research, Innovation, Scholarship and Creativity grant program): Nichole Cespedes, Melissa McKenney, Tammy Winfield, and Jay Malmo.
  • Vananh Nguyen was selected by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars to go to the US Presidential Inauguration in Washington, DC. She will receive a professional development award from the BRR Summers Endowment to assist with travel expenses to attend the inauguration.

Did you know that not many scholarships are available to BRR students, compared to what's available to student in majors that have been in existence for longer? Most scholarships are very specific, so BRR students may not be eligible. Yet scholarships are vitally important to OSU students - so important that they may be forced to choose a major based solely on scholarship availability. BRR provides unique opportunities to its students - we would like these to be available to all students who want them, regardless of financial need!

Please consider making a donation to BRR, or funding a scholarship that BRR students can use. For you recent graduates, remember that even a very small contribution means a lot, and small contributions add up quickly!
