Cary J. Green received his baccalaureate degree (1987) in Crop and Soil Science from Purdue University. He received his master's degree (1989) in Soil Microbiology and Biochemistry and earned a Ph.D. in Soil Science (1993) from Iowa State University.
In October 2007, Green became the Assistant Dean and Head Advisor in the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) at OSU. Green has leadership and administrative responsibilities for academic programs within CAS. He oversees the Academic Programs Office operations and staff. Green serves as co-advisor for the Ambassadors for Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources program. He also is a Professor of Soil Science in the Crop and Soil Science department.
Prior to coming to OSU, Green was a Professor of Soil Science and Director of the Agricultural Recruitment and Career Center at Texas Tech University. Green taught graduate and undergraduate courses in introductory soil science, soil fertility, environmental soil science, and soil chemistry. Green's soil science research program included investigations of the effects on soils of nutrients and salts derived from effluent water and the environmental fate of chemical and biological agents. He has received over $1.2M in research funding from NASA, DoD, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and other entities. He has published over 100 scientific papers, technical papers, and abstracts/proceedings; he also is co-author of a soil science book. Furthermore, Dr. Green has worked as a consultant on salinity issues with various corporations and consulting firms.
While at Texas Tech, Green received the Ex-Student's Association New Faculty Award, President's Excellence in Teaching Award, CASNR Outstanding Faculty Award, and was a member of Texas Tech University's Teaching Academy. He is a Fellow of the Food Systems Leadership Institute.
Green served as the National Advisor for Students in Agronomy, Soils, and Environmental Science and as Chair for the Resident Education division of the American Society of Agronomy. He served as Chair of the Texas Certified Crop Advisor Program Board from 2000-2006.
While living in Texas, Green was a commissioned Peace Officer and served as a Reserve Officer. In January 2007, he was named as the Reserve Officer of the Year in Lubbock County, TX. Green enjoys photography, fishing, and shooting sports. Green and his wife, Nell, live in Albany.
