Because an efficient and reliable computing and networking environment is essential to the effective operation of the administrative functions of the College of Agricultural Sciences, our policy is one of providing centralized support for all elements of the College's administrative offices in Strand Agriculture Hall. Because the relatively small size of the Department of Agricultural Education and General Agriculture precludes its having its own system administration, we also provide support to that department. Community Network provides our information technology support under contract with the College.
Responsibility and authority for equipping and maintaining computers, printers, network wiring, and associated hardware and software reside with Gwil Evans. Other individuals employed in the administrative Office of the Dean and the Department of Agricultural Education are not authorized to purchase, install, operate, or connect to the network any devices or software not first coordinated with and approved by him. Any such devices or hardware must conform to University and Community Network standards.
Our goal is to provide a level of computing support that, consistent with good information technology and computer security practices and within budget constraints, will assure that reliable tools are provided that enable employees in our administrative offices to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently.
Requests for routine, day-to-day support should be directed via electronic mail to <CN.help@oregonstate.edu>, or by phone 737-8787, option 2. Requests or proposals for new or replacement hardware or software, and for policy, budget, and higher level strategic decisions should be addressed with Gwil Evans.
