All OSU personnel who have contact with animals in animal research, care, and handling may be covered under this program. Animals which are used in food and fiber productions are currently exempted from this program. Department heads and principal investigators are responsible for implementing this policy with individuals under their supervision.
If you work with animals in your research, you should read the OSU Policy on Animal Handler Occupational Health and Safety Program and Allergies and Diseases Communicable from Animals to Humans closely. If you work with rabbits, rodents, owls, fish, zebrafish, and frogs, you should read the species-specific guide on care and use of these animals. A risk-based assessment of all persons involved in animal contact is done to determine your level of participation in this program. This assessment is initiated by a review of information provided on one or the other of the following forms.
