Multistate Projects

The mission of the multistate research program is to enable research on high-priority topics among the State Agricultural Experiment Stations (SAES) in partnership with the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, other research institutions and agencies, and with the Cooperative Extension Service. In this way, technological opportunities and complex problem solving activities, which are beyond the scope of a single SAES, can be approached in a more efficient and comprehensive way. Multistate Research Guidelines contain detailed information for those who are interested in becoming a member of a multistate project.

The Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station (OAES) currently has 115 scientists who contribute to 80 multistate projects under the five USDA-CSREES National Goals. Each multistate project submits an annual report on their activities, accomplishments, and plans for the future. The OAES makes no attempt to evaluate any of these multistate research activities as that is accomplished through the efforts of the scientists and the Administrative Advisors in each program. The Western Research Coordination and Implementation Committee (RCIC) is responsible for evaluating each new or revised project proposal, and the AES directors approve or disapprove them based on the recommendations from the RCIC. The OAES is actively encouraging our scientists to participate in multistate activities.

The National Information Management and Support System (NIMSS), is a web-based application that will allow participants of multistate research projects and activities to submit proposals and reports online. You can also search the NIMSS database to identify existing projects of interest to you.
