Animal Health and Disease Research Fund (Public Law 95–113, Section 1433) is a national program which provides formula funds for animal health research in each state. The scope of this program is quite broad in order for each state who receives an allocation to address the most important issues related to animal health and disease. Research programs are used to promote the general welfare through improved health and productivity of domestic livestock, poultry, aquatic animals, and other income–producing animals. Oregon AES typically receives $70,000 to $90,000 each year, depending on our capacity to conduct animal health and disease related research. This capacity is calculated by CSREES based on the number of animal health and disease related projects entered into CRIS, and the amount of expenditure by these projects.
Six proposals were received in 2004 with a total request of $98,245. OAES organized the review and ranking of these proposals. Five projects were funded for a total of $74,949. For future funding, we plan to send out a Request for Application (RFA) announcement around January 15th.
