In our AEC Pedagogy Brownbag Series: Taking Time for Teaching, we will focus on a teaching topic to introduce some best practices, tools, and how to apply them in the classroom and online, and actively explore pedagogy questions for AEC classes.
Brownbags will be held twice per quarter during 2018-19 on the first Fridays of the month from 10-11am in Ballard 200C (Ballard 219 starting 3/1). Preliminary seminar dates and topics are below, and please suggest topics that you want to discuss:
November 2: Mitigating Student Cheating– Beau Olen
December 7: Continuing Conversation—Undergraduate Program Review
February 1: Write ON! Quick writing in the classroom – James Sterns (handouts)
March 1: Diversity and Inclusion in the Classroom – Jane Waite and Christy Brekken
April 5: Teaching Assistants' Experience and Best Practices—Jason Beasley and Tu Nguyen
May 3: Media Savvy—Teaching with Current (and Real) News – Christy Anderson Brekken
In addition, graduate students who attend and participate throughout the academic year will be eligible to register for a 1-credit graduate student seminar. Graduate students are encouraged to attend and participate to enhance their teaching skills. Most graduate students will have an opportunity to teach here or later in their career, making this a valuable contribution to their professional development.
