My wife and I grow vegetables and we sell them at the Salem Farmers' Markets and to local restaurants. Until two years ago, we lived eighteen years in Chicago where I worked as a landscaper and artist.
"Triple X" is part of a series of photographs with the working title, "Freak Show". Each of our harvests has yielded deformed tomatoes, peppers, carrots, cucumbers, squash and potatoes. Reprieved from the compost pile, I stage them in little vignettes to tell a story or to imbue them with a beauty worthy of their uniqueness. I have been working with vegetables in photography for a number of years. An earlier photo series, "Maters", explored similar themes as "Freak Show".
