Believe-it-or-not, these teachers (left) are learning about carbon sequestration.

Three times a year, 60-80 teachers from rural school districts across Oregon attended teacher training sessions held by SMILE - Science and Math Investigative Learning Experiences. These workshops are supported in part by the Bioenergy Education grant. Teachers received training on several bioenergy lessons including such topics as fermentation, biofuels, glucose and microbial fuel cells. The teachers take what they have learned back to their local SMILE clubs. Across the state, SMILE clubs serve about 600 rural Oregon 4-12 students.

Lessons can be downloaded through the SMILE curriculum or the bioenergy curriculum pages. Click here to see more photos from the workshops.
