Admission is covered under two sets of requirements: Oregon State University (OSU) admissions and College of Engineering (COE) admissions. All students admitted under the University admissions policy may enroll in a pre-engineering program of their choice consisting of lower division courses. However, students must meet the COE admission and individual program requirements to be admitted to a professional engineering program consisting of upper division engineering courses.
First year students
First Year students are identified as currently in high school or are high school graduates with fewer than 36 quarter/24 semester college credits; or GED holder. Apply Online and fill out and submit the form or download a printable application, fill it out and mail it to the OSU Office of Admissions, as instructed on the form.
Transferring from another college or university
To transfer from another college or university, you will need to formally apply to OSU and be accepted. This is controlled by the University's Office of Admissions, which has much more information on this topic. The COE and Department of Biological & Ecological Engineering do not place restrictions beyond the University's admission requirements on a transfer student's admission to the pre-engineering program. However, transfer students must gain admission to the Professional Programs of the School in the same manner as other OSU students.
Once you are accepted, the registrar’s office will produce an Advanced Standing Report based on your submitted transcripts. You will then have to meet with the EcoE head advisor to determine which of your completed courses will count towards the EcoE degree.
Transferring from another major at OSU
You will need to complete the Change of Undergraduate Academic Program form, obtain approval from the head advisor of the college in which the program being declared resides, and return the completed form to the Office of the Registrar. As noted on page 2 of the form, the pre-engineering EcoE major code is 654. The pro-engineering EcoE major code is 450, which is not listed on the form.
If you have already been accepted into pro-school, you will need to fill out the Change of Pro-school Petition Form (MS Word Doc).
In any case, you should talk to the EcoE head advisor to discuss courses that you will need to take to complete the EcoE degree.
You will find detailed information about the application process, deadlines and university requirements on the Graduate Admissions site. Please follow the directions on that OSU webpage if you decide to submit a formal application. The department application deadline for a domestic student is the same as the university requirement and that is no later than one month before the desired starting term – an international student is required to submit an application three months before the desired starting term. For both domestic and international students, an early application will increase your chances of finding an advisor and financial support.
