Potential New Crops

COARC has played a key role in creating answers to challenges faced by industry and growers in the development of potential new crops. Research often focuses on weed, insect and disease control – key unknown factors related to successful crop management.

Examples of new crops that have come and some are now gone include dill for oil, Echinacea and St. John’s Wort for their medicinal value, sugar beets grown for sugar, a variety of dry beans, canola, various flowers grown for seed and sugar beets grown for seed.
