Assistantships

Research Assistantships

Research assistants generally work on a faculty research project. The money funding the research also funds the assistantship position. Professors are looking for motivated graduate assistants capable of completing work, communicating results, and working as team. Assistantships offer hands-on experience with cutting-edge research.

Assistantship appointments range from 0.30 FTE to 0.49 FTE (FTE meaning full-time employment).

Teaching Assistantships

Teaching assistantships can include leading a discussion, delivering lectures, grading papers, or supervising a laboratory.

Teaching assistants teach introductory undergraduate courses or assist faculty in the delivery of upper division and graduate courses. This requires a mastery of the course content, and also challenges a TA's ability to communicate ideas clearly.

PLEASE NOTE: Graduate Assistant appointments at OSU are ultimately governed by the contract agreement between OSU and the Coalition of Graduate Employees, American Federation of Teachers Local 6069.
