Competitive financial assistance packages are available primarily in the form of research and teaching assistantships.
Graduate Assistantships
Assistantships provide a monthly stipend, tuition remission, fee offsets and health insurance benefits. Most financial assistance packages are offered and administered by individual faculty, and the availability of financial assistance is an important consideration in the admission process. Applicants should contact individual Graduate Faculty directly to inquire about the availability of assistantships and the general availability of graduate positions in their programs.

ARCO-Swallow Graduate Research Fellowships
The Department of Horticulture offers ARCO-Swallow Fellowships to recruit outstanding applicants and to assist outstanding students early in their graduate school programs. An ARCO-Swallow Fellowship provides support for nine months that is equivalent to graduate assistantship packages (stipend, tuition remission, fee offsets, and health insurance benefits) and also includes an additional $3,000 award. Financial assistance after the nine month fellowship is the responsibility of the major advisor and the student. Applications are open to all students with an offer to enroll in the M.S. or Ph.D. program or with less than one year residency in the program. Applications are submitted on behalf of students by faculty advisors. Interested students should talk with their major advisors about the possibility of applying for ARCO-Swallow support. There is a single call for nominations in early January.
