Leadership on a national level

Sophomore Brecklin Milton

by Callahan Anderes

Leadership has always been a part of Brecklin Milton’s life and education. In October 2016, Milton is taking that one step further by journeying to Indianapolis, Indiana, and attempting to become Oregon’s National Officer Candidate for FFA.

As a high school student Milton was involved in FFA, a student-lead youth organization focusing on agriculture through premier leadership, personal growth, and career success. Milton was an officer for her home chapter of Ontario, Oregon, as well as a district officer in the Snake River District. As a senior in high school she was elected to Oregon FFA State Vice President. Then she took a year off school to travel the state visit the high school agriculture programs in Oregon, presenting leadership workshops and promoting agriculture.

Milton was able to continue her passion for leadership and agriculture by coming to Oregon State. She majors in Agricultural Business Management, is an ambassador for the College of Agricultural Sciences, and is involved in various organizations on campus. Milton volunteers her time to many community groups and always has time for a smile and a chat.

“Although I did not grow up on a farm, agriculture has always surrounded me and brought my community together,” says Milton about her past. “I continue to strive to advocate for the agricultural industry in as many capacities as possible and look forward to a career in marketing where I can do just that.”

In the days to come Milton will be going through the national officer candidate process. Milton will be interviewing, giving speech and workshop presentations along with other national officer hopefuls.

If elected Milton will travel the country visiting local chapters and state conventions on a year-long leadership tour as well as plan and execute the National Convention in fall 2017. The National Officers also promote agriculture and advocate for the industry by touring and being the face of the organization.

“We are extremely proud of her for making the first cut in the National FFA Officer nominating process,” says Milton’s high school ag teacher and local chapter advisor of Ontario, Les Linegar.

No matter the outcome of the nominating process Brecklin Milton is an outstanding example of everyday leadership in the OSU community.
