The College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) at Oregon State University has named Jackie Thorsness as its new Chief Operating Officer, effective March 1st. In this pivotal role, Thorsness will provide strategic oversight of CAS operations, including financial and facility-related matters, human resources, and information technology.
With over six years of service to CAS, Thorsness brings a wealth of experience, currently serving as the college’s Financial Officer. She holds a bachelor's degree in communications and a master's degree in business administration, and her career spans various roles within the Oregon University System and OSU. Thorsness has overseen the financial aspects of CAS, demonstrating expertise in financial monitoring, forecasting, budget allocation, policy development, compliance, and internal controls. She has been instrumental in developing and implementing various policies, including budget models and reserve policies.
“Jackie brings extensive experience and visionary perspective to our college,” said Staci Simonich, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences. “Her leadership will help us guide the College through sustainable growth in the years to come.”
A collaborative leader, Thorsness has successfully established productive relationships with colleagues across the university, displaying authenticity and a solutions-focused mindset. With her knowledge of CAS and challenges faced by our faculty, staff, and units, she strives to improve processes and advocate for our college.
“I am excited to contribute to the college's success in a more significant and vital role as Chief Operating Officer,” said Thorsness. “My experience will allow me to bring a unique blend of leadership, financial acumen, and collaborative spirit to the position.”
Thorsness replaces Jack Breen, who is retiring after serving in various financial leadership roles within CAS and OSU since 2005.
