Volume 2, Number 1

At the 62nd Secretary's Annual Honor Awards Ceremony (August 3, 2010) the Western CLB Team received an APHIS Administrator's Award that "recognizes collaboration, creativity, and outstanding contributions to the APHIS mission". The award was 1 of 6 Administrator's Awards given this year.

The Western CLB team includes folks from Oregon - off and on campus researchers (Darrin Walenta, George Hoffman and Sujaya Rao) from OSU, personnel from ODA, and Oregon growers and crop consultants. As you know, the team was recognized earlier this year, nationally, with the USDA APHIS PPQ Deputy Administrator's Safeguarding Award, and regionally, last year, with the Western Extension Director’s Award of Excellence, and IPM Team Award from the Pacific Branch, Entomological Society of America.

The award was received for “sustained, diversified teamwork, resulting in successful biological control of the cereal leaf beetle, which provided reduced pesticide use and increased integrated crop protection for grain farmers throughout the West”.
