VIEW is the Climate Center’s freshwater-focused VI which aims to create a first-generation water reanalysis - a state of the art data product of global water that is uniform in space and time and includes both changes in and feedbacks between precipitation and terrestrial water stores - that will fill in knowledge gaps through quantification and assimilation of observations of historical and current freshwater. We hypothesize that a water reanalysis will enable effective and equitable water management, use, and planning, in addition to providing a robust basis for prediction and exploration of scenarios and counterfactuals of water availability (freshwater that is physically accessible and meets a standard for use) globally. We further expect that this reanalysis will enable new insights into the global freshwater cycle.
