"I am very excited to serve as part of the 2020/2021 SACNAS chapter as a webmaster, because I want to help engage and support my peers to practice professional development. I have participated in SACNAS as a member for a little over a year, and I have already experienced a positive impact from the program. By attending the 2019 SACNAS Conference in Honolulu, I gained a connection that helped me get accepted into the Fred Hutch SURP program. I hope to create similar opportunities for my peers at OSU. I have always been a really active supporter of those around me- from forming study groups to editing papers. I resonate a lot with the SACNAS mission statement of motivating other Chicanos and Native Americans, as they prepare to enter grad school or the STEM workforce. I feel that a big barrier from many ethnic minorities sometimes, is the lack of support we get from teachers, family and society as a whole- but SACNAS has made me feel that I have another community that is behind my back, pushing me to excel in my professional goals."

Daniel De Leon, GRAD Chair
