• (2024) Integrated Pest Management Guidelines and Biocontrol of Cereal Leaf Beetle in the Pacific Northwest For years, a small wasp has helped control the cereal leaf beetle, a pest of grass and cereal grains. But now beetle numbers are climbing. Here are some options to reduce this pest's impact on crops.
• (2020) Omnivorous Leaftier A ubiquitous and often minor pest of small grains and other seed crops of Western Oregon The omnivorous leaftier has a wide host range and is known to cause damage to species from more than 20 plant families. Native parasitoid wasps manage this pest in natural and cropland settings. The first appearance of this insect in Oregon was noted in 1929 on strawberries and Dutch bulbous iris plantations near Portland. Soon, it was reported in Washington and California feeding on strawberry and flax grown for seed, respectively.
• (2020) Invertebrate Pest Management for Pacific Northwest Pastures A well-managed pasture has several ecological and economic benefits. However, several species of arthropods (insects, mites and garden symphylans), and gastropods (slugs) inhabit pastures of the Pacific Northwest of the United States and can diminish those benefits.
• (2024) Cereal leaf beetles pose threat to grain crops The cereal leaf beetle attacks grain crops and damages both plant vigor and grain quality. Sporadic outbreaks in Oregon counties in recent years might be an indication that biocontrol is failing.
