Biography
My name is Fang-Yu(Betty) Shen, an international Ph.D. student from Taiwan. I'm interested in using birds as an environmental indicator to see how the economic value of birds reacts to the change in landscape composition across time. I am interested in using species distribution models that take imperfect detectability into account to predict the distribution of birds across Oregon. In particular, I'm using citizen science projects in my research (e.g., eBird, Breeding Bird Survey, Oregon2020).
At my undergraduate school (this was the moment I start to fall in love with birds), I studied how species detection probability from birds changes throughout the breeding season in Taiwan, and this was done by using the citizen science from the Breeding Bird Survey in Taiwan. From the course of Systemic of Birds in my undergrads, I was invited and volunteered to be a Teaching Assistant. Based on these teaching experiences, I was in charge of the bird-related course during my Masters, teaching students how to identify birds from the wild.
