Dryland Crops and Weed Research

Columbia Research centerWelcome to the Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center Weed Science Research Project Web Page. We are involved in developing Integrated Weed Management Systems for Eastern Oregon Dryland Crops.

We are located at the Columbia Basin Agriculture Research Center (CBARC), 8 miles northeast of Pendleton, Oregon on Tubbs Ranch Road and Hwy 11 north.

Project Objectives:

  • Investigate new herbicides to improve weed management and environmental suitability for eastern Oregon dryland crops. Particular emphasis will be placed on weed management in intensive dryland crop rotations using direct seeding.
  • Characterize the impact of alternative, dryland rotation crops on winter annual grass weed populations and develop crop rotation practices that minimize crop losses due to weeds.
  • Develop improved weed management practices for dryland fallow to optimize herbicide inputs and reduce tillage.
  • Develop strategies for restoration of degraded native grasslands.
