2025 SACNAS Awards
The SACNAS Chapter at Oregon State University (Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science) has been recognized with the prestigious 2025 Chapter of the Year Award. The Officer team excelled at celebrating culture, community building, leadership in science, creating innovative Science, and are committed to Long-Term Sustainability. Since 2022, the chapter has flourished under dedicated mentorship and leadership of advisor Clarisa Caballero-Ignacio, driving vision, creativity, and a commitment to community impact. In 2023, Felice Yarbough joined as the graduate teaching assistant and co-advisor, further strengthening the chapter’s growth and influence. Graduate Teaching Assistants have provided invaluable support to the chapter for many years.
2024 Highlights include:
- 42 activities focused on connection, leadership, science empowerment, professional development, and community building.
- 94.6% increase in membership, bringing the chapter to 144 active student members.
- Implementation of a new membership tracking system, providing meaningful data and transparency.
- 74.6% of members identify as female, showcasing strong representation of women in STEM at OSU SACNAS.
This national recognition reflects the dedication and leadership of the chapter’s officer team and members, who continue to cultivate connections, empower peers through science, and uplift each other in STEM.
Special thanks to Wanda Crannell and Dana Sanchez for re-establishing the chapter in 2012 and building such a strong foundation. Wanda went on to guide the team with dedication for 10 years, including three years as co-advisor. We are deeply grateful for her leadership, commitment, and service.
