Biography

Valerian Dolja graduated from Moscow State University, Russia, in 1974 and received his PhD and DSc degrees in 1980 and 1987, respectively. He moved to the US in 1991 as a Visiting Scientist at Texas A&M University. In 1994, he joined the faculty of the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology at Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon, and was promoted to Full Professor in 2001. His laboratory worked in the areas of plant cell biology (myosin transport) and plant RNA virology (virus-host interactions, functional genomics, gene expression vectors). The current focus of his research is on virus diversity and evolution (comparative genomics and virus origins). Dr. Dolja serves on the editorial boards of Biology Direct, Frontiers in Plant Science and Journal of Virology, he is an elected Fellow of the American Association for Advancement of Science and the American Academy of Microbiology. He published more than 150 articles.
